The High Strung
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The High Strung are a garage rock band from Detroit, Michigan. The band consists of the lead singer and guitarist Josh Malerman, bassist Chad Stocker, and drummer Derek Berk. They formed in Brooklyn, NY when the members of the former East Lansing, MI favorite The Masons changed their name and added Stocker. Their first album Soap was released on Tee Pee Records in 2001 to rave reviews. Their second album was released in 2002 and called Sure As Hell. Then These are Good Times was released in 2003 as their third album. Which was followed by their fourth album Moxie Bravo in 2007.
The band has several claims to fame over the years. In 2004 they left their tour bus on the steps of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. They left a plaque and a note with the bus that read (in order):
"Although the odometer reads 18,621 miles, it is actually 318, 621 miles. The spray painting was done by various people all over the country but never by anyone in the van. The van contains countless notes, photos and song ideas inspired by those met along the way."
"Dear Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, We believe rock and roll can make man heroic, make man Superman, can make giants out of the audience and artists alike … The High Strung’s donation to you is a wild multicolored beast of a vehicle that, despite its age and demand placed upon it, carried us to 500 shows across America without asking us to cancel one. Oh, yeah, and don’t you worry about any potential towing costs, the keys are in the ignition."
In 2005 they began touring libraries throughout the state of Michigan, spurring an appearance on an episode of This American Life on NPR. They are currently touring libraries throughout the country as a follow up, however they remain true to their rock roots by playing in bars and more traditional venues as well.
