Pamela Sue Martin starred as girl detective Nancy Drew for the series' first two seasons, while Janet Julian filled that role in the final season. The plots of the episodes surrounded the detective work of the teenage Hardy Boys and their interplaying cooperation with Drew, with plots similar to those used in the characters' respective series of young adult fiction. The series was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1977, in the category of "Special Classification of Outstanding Individual Achievement", recognizing the work of cinematographer Enzo Martinelli.
