[edit] Synopsis

Mario and company are crossing the Desert Kingdom, possibly trying to track down King Koopa because he stole all their money earlier. They come to a sudden stop, however, due to an ambush by Fryguy. For reasons that are never explained, Toad owes Fryguy 60 Coins, and he has till sundown to pay them. But since Koopa stole their money, the good guys can't pay Fryguy, who suggests maybe Mario and Luigi enter the local motorcross bicycle race and win the prize money.

The Mario Bros. head for the race's starting line with their bicycle and soon meet their competitors - Tryclyde, Mouser, and Koopa Troopa. The Bros. manage to get a head start as a result of the bad guys' teasing, but while she and Toad are watching the race, Princess Toadstool notices King Koopa operating behind the scenes. She and Toad head towards his quarters to eavesdrop on him and find out, by overhearing the directions King Koopa is giving to his minions (whom he calls "Team Koopa"), that the race is in fact a ploy to destroy the Mario Bros. The Princess and Toad rush out onto the road to try and warn the Marios of King Koopa's plot, but they zip right by them and are instead captured by Team Koopa; they are taken to Koopa himself, who ties them up in a sleeping Cobrat.

Meanwhile, Mario, feeling too confident about his and Luigi's head start, decides to make a stop at a nearby pasta restaurant and eat. Just when they leave the restaurant, Team Koopa catches up to them and speeds right by them. Angry with this, Mario and Luigi give chase after them, with the bad guys leading them up a cliff, which the Bros. soon fall off of. However, using a plunger as a grappling hook, Mario manages to save his and Luigi's lives and get back in the race. Team Koopa then shifts into high gear and gives chase after them. After some useful warfare with Mario emptying a can of spaghetti sauce right in front of the enemies and Mouser throwing Bob-ombs at the Mario Bros., the Koopa Troopa manages to slow down the plumbers by breaking a glass boulder in front of them, making it pop their tires. However, the Marios dash into a nearby vegetable garden and pummel their enemies with the vegetables, eventually forcing them to surrender and retreat.

Meanwhile, Toadstool and Toad manage to escape the sleeping Cobrat and get away on one of King Koopa's spare bicycles, with the Koopa himself making little effort to stop them. They find the Mario Bros. just as they've beaten their foes and tell them that the whole race was a trap, and that Toad doesn't really owe Fryguy anything. The Marios are really mad that they've risked their necks (and wasted some tomato sauce) for nothing, and the episode ends with the four of them chasing a bike-riding King Koopa off into the sunset, throwing vegetables (and fruits) at him.

[edit] Trivia/Goofs

  • When Princess Toadstool first notices King Koopa, he and the Koopa Troopas are placed in the wrong part of the shot.
  • The three Koopa Troopas that end up clobbering themselves in their attempt to recapture Toadstool and Toad are suddenly wearing biker gloves when Koopa yells at them.
  • This episode parodies Excitebike, a videogame also published by Nintendo.
  • In some shots that show the "Start" sign, the sign incorrectly says "Tart".

[edit] Synopsis

Mario and Luigi are enjoying their lazy lifestyle, only to have it interrupted when an insect tells them over the phone that their mother is coming to visit, and she's a stickler for cleanliness. So the Bros. are forced to clean up the basement just as she arrives. Mama then shows up and proceeds to boss the two around, making them clean up all over the city and smacking their heads with her purse. However, she soon leaves after getting a phone call telling her that she's won the lottery. Just as the Marios are returning to their messy lifestyle, however, they get an even worse fate - a visit from Aunt Luigeena!

[edit] Trivia

  • Luigi is playing a Nintendo Entertainment System at the beginning (the controller can be seen in his hands).
  • Mama is obviously played by Mario's actor, Lou Albano; this explains why she and Mario himself are never shown onscreen at the same time during this episode. (The only exception to this is right when Mama leaves following the Legend of Zelda preview, but she is obscured by the door and is possibly being played by a different person at that point with Albano's voice dubbed over.) Similarly, Aunt Luigeena is played by Danny Wells (Luigi's actor), hence why Luigi leaves right when she arrives.
  • Aunt Luigeena is possibly the namesake to the Marios' cousin of the same name in "Marianne and Luigeena".
