The Golden Fleece Inn, York, UK
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Golden Fleece is an Inn located in the City of York in the United Kingdom. The inn has been mentioned in texts as far back as the year 1503 and is rumoured to be home to many spirits from its long history. The inn claims that it is the most haunted public house in the City of York. The back yard of the inn is named after Lady Peckett (wife of John Peckett, Lord Mayor from 1702), a former owner of the Golden Fleece said to haunt various rooms. The Inn itself was recently featured on the British TV programme Most Haunted.
The inn is situated on The Pavement opposite the historic Tudor street known as The Shambles in the centre of York. It is distinguished by the large golden fleece hanging above the door and is easily recognisable from a distance. Nearby attractions also include the Merchant Adventurer's Hall (who were former owners of the inn themselves), Cliffords Tower, The Shambles and York Minster.
