[edit] Plot synopsis
Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.
A mysterious group of Technomages pass through the station en route to the galactic rim. Ivanova is promoted and deals with groups of combative Drazi.
[edit] Arc significance
- The Technomages stop at Babylon 5 on their way to an unknown destination, travelling to avoid an (at the time) unknown future conflict.
- Londo Mollari receives a prophecy from the Technomage Elric, claiming that in the future he will hear the "sounds of billions of people calling your name." "My followers?" asks Mollari, to which Elric replies, "Your victims."
[edit] Production details
- The script had to be revised when Claudia Christian broke her foot. While she was trying to negotiate a peace between two warring factions of Drazi, the Drazi group explode into a brawl, and she injures her leg when the Drazi pile on top of her.
[edit] Trivia
- This episode was nominated for two Emmys for Cinematography and Hairstyling.
- The 'old saying about Wizards' quoted by the Technomage Elric is a quotation of the wizard Gandalf in the The Lord of the Rings.
- Elric is named after a sorcerer character created by Michael Moorcock.
- When Garibaldi rescues Ivanova from the green Drazi, he distracts one of the guards by claiming to be a salesman of the Acme Corporation. This again reflects his fascination of the Looney Tunes, specifically, Daffy Duck.
- Many fans believe that the ritual conflict between the "green" and "purple" Drazis (and the subsequent escalation of the conflict when the "greens" started killing off "purples") foreshadows the subsequent escalation of conflict between the Vorlons (analogous to green) and the Shadows (purple). In the latter stages of the Great war, circa 2261, the Vorlons begin an overt campaign to eradicate the Shadows (or their ideology of chaos).
