The FoxBox

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Foxbox refers to a programming block on television of cartoons.

In September 2002, FoxKids staple Saturday morning cartoon programming was cancelled in favor of a new programming block, created by 4Kids Entertainment, known simply as the FoxBox. FoxBox was launched on September 14, 2002, originally (and still) running from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. FoxBox featured the American produced cartoon Stargate Infinity but mostly children-oriented anime such as Fighting Foodons, Ultimate Muscle, Kirby: Right Back at Ya! and the popular Japanese live-action show, Ultraman Tiga. Unlike Kids WB, FoxKids did not have weekday timeslots to rerun their Saturday morning cartoons and often doubled up on premieres of Kirby and Fighting Foudons (which was left unfinished until late 2003). Like other Saturday morning cartoon blocks, FoxBox held sweepstakes and call-in contests for its viewers. The block initially suffered from a lack of sufficient viewership

[edit] New Arrivals

In February 2003, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles premiered on the FoxBox, instantly become a popular trademark show of FoxBox. Cartoon Network would attain the rights to rerun episodes of TMNT Season 1 on its new Miguzi afternoon block in 2004. The Cramp Twins began airing on FoxBox in early 2003 at 12:00a.m. taking the place of Ultraman Tiga (which has yet to return to FoxBox), only to be cancelled in early 2005. TMNT is considered by many to be FoxBox's most successful show to date, spawning a sequel series, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Fast Forward, which began airing on 4KidsTV (FoxBox) in summer 2006.

[edit] Changes

In August 2003, FoxBox underwent some programming changes. Shaman King, Sonic X, and Cubix: Robots for Everyone took the place of original FoxBox shows such as Kirby and Ultimate Muscle. Fighting Foodons, which had been on a long hiatus, was finally finished in Fall 2003.
