[edit] Episode Recap
At breakfast, Nate decides that they should sell the business to Kroehner seeing as their buyout offer is quite generous and Nate does not want to pursue a career option as a funeral director. David feels betrayed seeing as Ruth and Claire side with Nate. David angrily gives Nate permission to call Gilardi of their decision. However at the meeting, Nate discovers that he actually wants to be a funeral director to keep the business alive and reconsiders selling the home. When Nate tells David his sudden revelation, he is somewhat relieved but also angered since Nate is still making all of the decisions. Later while cutting the hedges, Nate is visited by Gilardi who informs him that they have purchased an old home across the street and are planning to turn it into a crematorium. He also warns Nate that Kroehner plans to put them out of business in six months.
After a bakery worker is badly chopped into several pieces, his family bring his body to Fisher & Sons in the hopes of a major restoration. Federico takes the job on as a challenge and completes the job flawlessly. The only problem Federico has trouble is that Mr. Romano's foot is not included in the body shroud. All fingers point to Nate since he was the person responsible for retrieving the body and because all of the body parts were detailed in the paper work.
Ruth receives a visit from her friend, Amelia who offers to help her get over her grief. Ruth feels fine and does not need anyone to feel sorry for her. After going through a pile of Nathaniel's clothes, Amelia wonders why Ruth refuses to hang on to anything. Ruth scoffs at her suggestion and shortly afterward, Amelia goes back home. When Ruth finishes tidying her room, she calls Amelia to see if she would like to something fun. They wind up going to the racetrack where Ruth gets drunk and admits that for the past few years she has been having an affair. When Ruth arrives home, she admits that she lost $20,000.00 much to the chagrin of Nate who recommends she do things that involve less money.
When Nate suggests to Brenda that she move to Seattle with him, but she refuses since she has a life in L.A. However when Nate decides to remain in Los Angeles partly because of her, they celebrate by drinking expensive champaigne and smoking pot. They later get to talking and Brenda tells Nate "she doesn't want to deal with children". Nate does not want children either but Brenda is referring to Nate. The following day, Nate shows Brenda the Fritzen house (which was bought by Kroehner) where he used to play when he was growing up. This leads to Nate and Brenda having sex on the couch and then the two fall asleep. Brenda quickly wakes up when she receives a phone call from a man who urgently needs her. Nate asks who she is talking to but Brenda tells him to back off for a while.
David and Keith go shopping for a ceiling fan when David talks about the sudden relief he is receiving now that Nate has decided to sell the business. When David asks Keith if he should still pursue other options, he tells him that "he is still a baby" and has plenty of time to do what he really wants. Later while David and Keith enjoy their new ceiling fan, David receives a phone call from Federico informing him that Claire is in trouble with some interesting news.
When Claire leaves school, she is outed by several classmates who label her "Toe Slut" and "This Little Piiggy Lover" which are all written on her hearse. After being publicly humiliated by her boyfriend, she leaves the school embarrassed and mortified. The following day she asks Gabe what happened and he proceeds to tell her that he told his friend Andy about their charade. Claire decides to revenge her honor by taking a dismembered foot from the deceased, putting it in a bag and throwing it in Gabe's locker. When Gabe opens his locker, he finds in a bag a foot which he immediately gasps at and then he vomits. Later, he throws the bag in a dump to dispose of the evidence. Claire unexpectedly finds Keith there who is also looking for the missing foot. They begin searching together but come up with no results. Claire then tells Keith she knows that he and David are lovers which Keith admits to.
Meanwhile at the funeral home, the daughters of the deceased want to make sure that he is all put together by opening the casket. David and Nate immediately run over to them to try to stop them from opening the lid. The daughter insists on opening and finds he is perfectly put together including his foot. Nate looks over to Rico with a surprised look. Rico then tells David & Nate that he used an old leg of lamb which was in the back of Ruth's refrigerator as a foot.
When Claire arrives home, she finds her mother and siblings on the stairs waiting for her because of what she did. Claire tells them that she doesn't need any help and that she went looking for the foot with Keith. Ruth once again questions why Keith is becoming so involved in their life. Before David can answer, Claire informs the family that the Fritzen house is on fire. As they watch the flames from their porch, Claire says "this must solve all of your problems now". The following day, a woman goes looking for her dog who ran into the dump. When the dog returns, in his mouth is Mr. Romano's foot.
