Chris Manns is a British professional wrestler best known by his ring name, The Flatliner.

The Flatliner is well known throughout the independent circuit in the United Kingdom, but his best known appearances have been with Scott Conway's The Wrestling Alliance, and now Brian Dixon's All Star Promotions.

The Flatliner is considered to be a very charismatic wrestler, which often makes up for his sometimes poor wrestling ability, which has often lead The Flatliner to be injury prone. Often used in tag matches, The Flatliner has been involved with a wide array of tag partners in his career.

[edit] Career

At the age of 14 Chris Manns started weight lifting, and won the awards of Junior Mr Southampton and Junior Mr South of England. He then picked up jobs as a door man and a debt collector, but eventually rested on a doorman job at TGI Fridays. At around the age of 20, he was spotted in a gym by then FWA Promoter "The Specialist" Mark Sloan, who quickly pushed him through some basic training.

The Flatliner made his debut at the FWA No Surprises 1 event from The Pyramids Centre in Portsmouth. He came out to help Mark Sloan claim the FWA title belt back from Jorge Castano and Scotty Rock.

The Flatliner would go on make several appearances through England's independent circuit including Southampton-based TWA (The Wrestling Alliance). The success curve took a giant leap at the start of 2002, starting at TWA's Championship Night event at the Southampton Guildhall, where Flatliner beat Kris Kay to become the "Young Wrestler Of The Year". The success continued to the Exmouth event of this tour, where he beat Karl Krammer for the TWA European Heavyweight Championship. However, Flatliner was then taken out of the running during a title defence against Justin Starr, where his knee buckled and it picked up serious damage.

In the Autumn of 2003 The Flatliner returned from injury. During this time he had many matches against legends of wrestling including Jake "The Snake" Roberts and Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake. He also formed a successful partnership with Nathan "X-Factor" Creed during the final tour of the TWA company. On the final night of this final tour, The Flatliner went full circle to reclaim the European Heavyweight Championship in Exeter at the same hall where he originally got injured. The Flatliner claimed the title by outlasting 19 other wrestlers in a rumble match.

The Flatliner carried his success in to 2004. He went on to win the TNT championship and retain his UWA championship belt on several occasions. On 24 April however, The Flatliner lost his UWA Championship belt to one half of The Essex Boys, "Flying" Phil Powers. This loss did not go without incident though, as the referee did not see The UK Pitbulls get involved and cost Flatliner the match.

The Flatliner would then go on to established himself as one of All Star Wrestling's most colourful and popular heavyweight campaigners throughout 2004–05. During this time, The Flatliner would pair up with a three-foot-tall Midget wrestler, Little Legs. This tag team partnership was referred to as little and large.

However, the team would go on hiatus in 2006 after Little Legs underwent surgery on his legs in late 2005 and Flatliner was out of action through out the year with a mystery illness. Flatliner made his return to All Star on 16 October 2006 in Aylesbury, and though Little Legs is still waiting to get the all clear to return to action he would make personal appearances to support The Flatliner.[1]
