The Flaming Tsunamis are an experimental six-piece skacore group out of New Haven County, Connecticut. They are signed to Killnormal Records. Since forming in 2000, they have become known for often using classic sci-fi fantasy themes such as zombies, robots, and vampires but also known for having outlandish song subjects like necrophilia and referencing Saturday Night Live characters Bennett Brauer and Bill Brasky. They recently released their fourth studio album on their own Kill Normal Records.
Their official MySpace profile reads:
"For over 6 years, The Flaming Tsunamis have been unleashing their explosive live show on the unsuspecting public. Playing everything from metal to reggae shows the band never ceases to shatter preconceptions of what a band with a horn section is capable of. Formed in rural Connecticut and starting out as a manic-paced skacore band, the group has since transformed into a much more experimental outfit that uses a framework of modern hardcore/metal to bring in such diverse influences as jazz, grind, ska, reggae, punk and anything else they can think of.
Extremely hard-working and fiercely independent, the band started out screening their own merch and has self-released 3 albums, 2 of which on their own label (Kill Normal Records). After enduring a revolving line up of members the band has recently settled on their most accomplished to date, and have since embarked on three 18 day east coast tours and a 38 date US/Canadian tour as well as completing infinite weekend outings and shorter tours. Having shared the stage with everyone from Against All Authority to The Number Twelve Looks Like You to The Slackers, the band has recently finished work on their new full length, FEAR EVERYTHING, out Sept 26th on KillNormal Records."
TFT are also known for lighting their horns on fire. I was lucky enough to see this at a show and I asked Andy afterward how he was able to do it. He said he puts duct tape over the bell of his saxophone, then rubs rubber cement over it, recites a sheeny curse, then ignites it. It's really easy to blow out and when he's done he just peels off the duct tape. It looks awesome! Unfortunately, this stunt was short-lived. During their homecoming show at The El N Gee in Connecticut, Andy lit his old alto saxaphone on fire, and smashed it, expressing strong detest for the instrument. It was way cooler than just lighting it on fire. Sax keys flew into the crowd and everyone went crazy. Some kid did a stage dive off the speakers and landed on his head, cracked it open, and got six staples. It was also pretty sweet.
Recently, The Flaming Tsunamis were arrested by the man in Ukiah, California for liberating some produce from evil corporate food conglomerates (FoodMaxx, don't shop there). Merch lackey, Mitch Dubey, talked back to police. The band was bailed out nearly 20 hours later and continued their US tour. A legal defense fund is slowly taking shape in the form of donations. Fans may make contributions at the band's live shows.
In January 2007, Matt Wixson joined the band on keyboards. In March, following a tour, Craig left the band.
The only reason the chinese use chopsticks is because Matt Wixson stole all their forks.
