The Final Experiment is an Ayreon album released in 1995. The album is about a blind minstrel named Ayreon from 16th century Britain, who receives messages from the year 2084. Mankind has virtually destroyed itself and scientists developed a computer program called Time Telepathy. They send information back in time to Ayreon, a minstrel, whose mission is to sing of mankind's demise, and eventually gets banished for it.

Seeing as all the other Ayreon albums re-released by InsideOut Music were two-disc albums, and the original pressing was only one, Arjen gathered a plethora of other musicians and singers he wanted to work with to record what was to be a simple mini bonus disc of songs off The Final Experiment recorded with nothing but acoustic instruments (such as acoustic guitars and basses, woodwind instruments, and natural percussion). But, as time wore on, he ended up recording nine bonus tracks, much to his delight.
