The Field (magazine)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Field is a magazine published by IPC Media which has been in print in Britain since 1853. Its brief is to cover the issues which affect people living in the British countryside, and in particular those related to country sports and pastimes.
The Field is notable since - in the late 19th century and early 20th century it helped to lay down standardised rules and equipment for a wide variety of sports, including tennis, golf and quoits. It has also organised a range of campaigns, raising issues as varied as dog distemper and the condition of British racecourses. The Field resolutely refuses to cover association football, the English national sport, except to make occasional derogatory comments about it[citation needed].
The Field is still in print and is now most noted for sports such as hunting and shooting.
