The Fair

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Miami-Dade County Fair & Exposition, Inc. (The Fair) is one of the largest and most successful fairs in the nation[citation needed]. It attracts nearly 800,000 visitors each year.[citation needed]

Known as one of Miami-Dade County’s largest family attractions, The Fair is held by a private board of directors, and is a non-profit organization. The Fair offers close to 100 rides, 50 games, 170 food vendors, close to 50,000 student and adult exhibits[citation needed], 130 merchandise shops, competitions, the World of Agriculture, a daily Mardi Gras parade and free live entertainment.

The Miami-Dade County Fair will run from March 15 to April 1, 2007 (a total of 18 days) and will be celebrating its 56th year.

It is located in southwest Miami at the Fair Expo Center on Coral Way and 112th Avenue and offers free parking.

[edit] Scholarships

To this day, The Fair has presented over $2 million to high school graduates to help them financially with their goals for college education. Seniors are eligible for scholarships if enrolled in public or private schools within Miami-Dade County, but home-schooled students may also apply.[citation needed]

The non-renewable $2,000 scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors at an award ceremony during The Fair. With the scholarship, they can attend an accredited college, university, or trade school.
