The Experiment is a science fiction novel for young adults in the Animorphs series by K.A. Applegate.
The Animorphs find out from Erik that the Yeerks have taken control of a meatpacking plant and a laboratory. They acquire chimpanzees and infiltrate the lab. They don't find very much information so they Tobias and Ax morph steer to go to the meatpacking plant. After they get there they break into a room with humans in cages. The computer tells them that it is an experiment designed to destroy the free will of the human population so that the Yeerks can take over easily and the animorphs finally find out on page 127 what has been on the back of the book the whole time. On the next page, Cassie tells them it is impossible to destroy free will, and less than three pages after they find out what the whole point of the book is, the scientist confirms that the experiment is a total failure and they all go home.
