The English Concert

The English Concert is a Baroque orchestra based in London that was founded by the harpsichordist Trevor Pinnock in 1972, and since 2003 directed by violinist Andrew Manze. From September 2007, harpsichordist Harry Bicket will take over as director.

Simon Standage was the concertmaster from 1972-1991; followed by Peter Hanson; followed by Rachel Podger; followed by Andrew Manze as director.

The English Concert continues to appear at the major London venues, including the Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall and South Bank Centre. Among the many UK festivals visited by The English Concert are Bath, Salisbury and the BBC Proms. They tour internationally, visiting music festivals and their début in Australia was in 2005.
