At its founding, the Empire Rock Club, at Tyson Avenue and the Roosevelt Boulevard, was the only rock venue in Northeast Philadelphia.

In January of 1985, the Empire began offering all-ages, all-original, all-metal revues every Sunday. The shows immediately took off and the club became a breeding ground for regional and national talent.
