The Eiger Sanction is a 1972 thriller novel by Rodney William Whitaker, written under the pseudonym Trevanian. The story was made into a film directed by and starring Clint Eastwood in 1975.

Dr. Jonathan Hemlock, art professor, mountaineer, and retired assassin, is called upon by his government to perform two more "jobs" ("sanctions"). He goes back into training and is met with ego clashes, poor climbing conditions, getting blackmailed by the IRS, and confronting a victim he did not expect.
