The Ecology Channel

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ecology Channel is a now defunct Canadian category 2 digital cable specialty channel with programming on environmental, ecological, and human sustainability issues. It was noted as the first of its kind in the world. The channel was owned by WETV and Ecology Communications Inc.

Launched in December 2001 as The Green Channel, it was wholly owned by WETV. As time went by, WETV sold an interest in the channel to Ecology Communications and the channel was renamed The Ecology Channel. Eventually the channel was taken off the air due to financial difficulaties.

It was announced that in late 2006, a new incarnation of The Ecology Channel will be returning to cable systems across Canada, the service will be named Ecology Canada, although it did not launch as planned. No new specific launch date has been set, only sometime in 2007.
