The Dudley School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dudley School was a mixed comprehensive school in Dudley, West Midlands, England. It was founded in 1975 on the merger on the town's two single-sex grammar schools, and was located on the two sites near Dudley town centre. The formation of the school also involved a merger with a smaller school; Park Secondary School.

The Dudley School catered for pupils aged from 12 to 18 years, as its opening coincided with the local authority's decision to rise the primary school leaving age from 11 to 12.

The Dudley School ceased to exist in 1989, when it merged with The Blue Coat School and Sir Gilbert Claughton School to form Castle High School. The new school used all of the Dudley School's facilities until new buildings were opened on the old grammar school site in 1995 and the former high school buildings were cleared the following year; the site is now occupied by a public car park.
