"The Drowning Man" is a song from The Cure's 1981 album Faith. The song is based on Fuchsia Groan, a character from Mervyn Peakes Gormenghast series. Most of the lyrics are directly taken from the book. This song is dark and gloomy and pretty typical for the songs from Faith.
