The Diamond Head Game was an American game show that aired from January 1975 to September 1975 in syndication and was hosted by Bob Eubanks who was assisted by Jane Nelson. It was the only game show that was entirely taped in Hawaii, and it was known for its "Money Volcano", which contestants would stand in. Money would be flying around and they had to catch the right bills, to collect prizes.

[edit] Premise

Eight contestants all selected from audience islands compete for the right to enter the money volcano.

[edit] Round 1

In the first round, four pairs of contestants compete in a question & answer game each with a common theme. In each game, host Eubanks read a question and the first player to buzz-in had a chance to answer. A correct answer won a point (indicated by a lighted eye on his/her podium tiki), but an incorrect answer gave the point to his/her opponent. The first player to answer/score two questions wins the game & a prize, and advances to round two.

Note: In the beginning of the second question round, Jane Nelson would hold a Liar's Club typed item. Sometimes a Hawaiian dancer would come and perform while Bob was reading the questions.

[edit] Round 2

The winners from the first round competed in round two in which they start at the base of the Diamond Head mountain. They were given a list of words & phrases (with a common theme) read by host Eubanks. Then the contestants in turn gave each listed word back. But if at anytime one player gave an answer that's not on the list, repeated one, or ran out of time, that player was eliminated from game, and the rest "climbed up" one step to the next level and picked up $50. The process was the same for the rest of the round with another being eliminated in the second list, and the rest "climbed up" another step, earning $100, and playing one last list. The last player standing won the game and went to the Diamond Head Money Volcano.

[edit] The Diamond Head Money Volcano

The winning player went inside the Diamond Head Money Volcano in which the whirlwinds started & money bills were dropped along with bills marked with prizes as well as $1 bills (which are bad (explanation later)) and flew around & around. Then the contestant had 15 seconds to grab as many bills as he/she can & putting them in his/her pouch. When a bell rang, the time was up, and the winning contestant exited the volcano afterwhich host Eubanks counted up a maximum of 10 bills. Bob pulled out bills one at a time, and the contestant earned what bills were pulled out. If at anytime a one dollar bill gets pulled out, the game was over and the winning contestant lost all other pulled out bills up to that point; but to prevent this from happening, the contestant can choose to stop at any point & keep the accumulated cash & prizes earned, occasionally Bob can tempt that player to stop by offering prizes (assistant Jane Nelson tempted the player using her own treasure pouch with a prize or booby prize inside) in exchange for a (soon-to-be) pulled out bill.

[edit] Episode Status

All episodes do exist, and the show was rerun on GSN in 1997-1998.
