The Dhol Blasters

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dhol Blasters are a group of traditional folk drummers from Birmingham, England, founded in 1995. The Dhol Blasters are led by the renowned dhol musician Gurcharan Mall.

Gurcharan Mall founded The Dhol Blasters in the early 80s while he was a dhol player in the noted bhangra band Apna Sangeet.

Gurcharan Mall began giving lessons in dhol playing in 1989 after being asked by fans who had seen him play to teach them the art. Starting with 5 students, The Dhol Blasters have grown continuously and now number 200 members, distributed over the whole of Britain.

Together with the reggae/dub band UB40 and the singer Hunterz, The Dhol Blasters performed the song 'Reasons' at the Live 8 London concert in Hyde Park.
