[edit] Notes

  • Track #1, "Sowing Season", is a remade version of "Untitled 08 (Yeah)" of the New Album Demos, and is the first single of the album.
  • Track #4, "Degausser", was played on the Summer 2006 tour under the name "Take Apart Your Head".
  • Track #9, "Luca", is a remade version of "Untitled 06 (Mamas)" of the New Album Demos. The song title refers to the character Luca Brasi of The Godfather.
  • In Track #10, "Untitled", also known as "--", late December 2006, an unusual video was released for the primarily instrumental track, which consists of a man spray painting a wall with "evil and good are raging Inside me" and correcting it to give the album title after a Brand New and others are seen with firecrackers.
  • Track #11, "The Archers Bows Are Broken", is a remade version of "Untitled 09 (The Edge Takes Over For Vin) of the New Album Demos.
  • The UK bonus track "Luca (Reprisal Version)" is a mastered version of "Untitled 06 (Mamas)" of the New Album Demos. It has not been remade, unlike the other version of Luca on the album.
  • The name of the album came from a conversation Jesse Lacey was having with his friend regarding their friend who is a schizophrenic.[3]
  • All of the lyrics on this album were written by Jesse Lacey, except "Handcuffs", which was written by Vincent Accardi.
  • The second verse to "Sowing Season" is from the Rudyard Kipling poem "If".
  • On the album, if you rewind the first song "Sowing Season" One minute 16 seconds, you can hear a hidden track of phone conversations, seemingly between Brand New and producer Mike Sapone.
  • The album is dedicated to 15 people who died during the recording of the record, who are listed in the booklet; Robert Sherman, Red Lacey, Leo Lacey, Bill and Virginia Sherman, James McAuliffe, Rosemary Kancelerski, Frances Ambrosio, Manfred Cardone III, Sid Rosen, Seymour Lane, Michelle Lane, George Moe, Alexander Lambros, and Omar Ortega.
  • No lyrics are included with the release, instead asking for $1 sent to Brand New (P.O. Box #2619, New York, NY 10108) for a full copy of the lyrics; this practice is similar to that of Weezer, who used to ask for a self-addressed envelope for lyrics.
  • The album, when pre-ordered online or bought from selected retailers, came with the limited edition CD single for Sowing Season, backed with the b-side "aloC-acoC" (as it could not be named "Coca-Cola" due to legal reasons.)
  • Unusually, the outside of the cardboard case contains no song listings, and doesn't contain the name of the album or the band name anywhere but on the spine. The record company instead placed stickers on the cellophane to indicate the name of the album and band, and on the UK version to indicate that it had the bonus track.
  • On December 15, 2006 the band put the full lyrics to the songs on their website. They can be accessed by clicking on the face of the little girl.
  • Jesse Lacey screams into his guitar pickup during live performances, producing a screaming-guitar sound similar to the one that can be heard in the background of "Welcome to Bangkok".
  • "Jesus"/"Jesus Christ" was performed on Late Night with Conan O'Brien on January 19, 2007.
  • "The Devil and God Are Raging Inside Me" was considered the best album of 2006 by Punknews [4].
