[edit] About the series

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

[edit] Demons

Main Article:Demons (The Demonata)

The series focuses on a world of demons that exists in thousands of universes parallel to our own that are accessible only through special portals, known as windows. Demon masters like Lord Loss can create universes, but the lesser demons just hop between existing worlds. Also, the universes do not have to go by earths laws of physics. In the universes live thousands of soulless demons in many monstrous forms. Demons range in size from a few feet to the size of a star. The demons find enjoyment in death and pain and are only concerned with killing other creatures. Many of the worlds contain grotesque scenery, such as piles of organs or a waterfall of blood. One of the demons focused on especially on in the series, Lord Loss, enjoys causing pain more than death.

[edit] Different protagonists

All The Demonata books can be read separately, but an overall series plot arc clicks together throughout the books. The Demonata will change stories from time to time through three main characters, the first, Grubbs Grady (the protagonist of Lord Loss, Slawter, Blood Beast, and the sixth book), the second, Kernel Fleck (from Demon Thief), and the third character, a girl whose name is Bec (from Bec)

Grubbs Grady seems to be the main protagonist of the series, and so far is known to be narrating four of the ten books.

[edit] Origins

Lord Loss was originally a poem written by Darren Shan, found in the front of Lord Loss. The story of Lord Loss and the Demonata came to Darren while he was working on The Saga. He wrote the book and left it alone until the Saga was finished. Originally, the Demonata was to just be a couple of books about various kids having encounters with the Demon Master, Lord Loss. While Darren was doing this, he found a way to make the plots for each of these separate books come together and form one whole.
