Piper is due in six weeks and has to be on bed rest because of high blood pressure it could affect the baby. Her doctor orders her to avoid all stress. This becomes very difficult when her father, Victor, shows up with his new wife, Doris. A unicorn is sent for the baby by a mysterious person with a name that starts with "El..." but the rest of the tag is missing. They assume this means that the unicorn came from someone Spanish. As the new lovebirds annoy Piper, Phoebe and Paige realize that they can't use their magic and Leo tells them that he can't orb. Phoebe and Paige realize demons are in the same boat when a wimpy demon named Stanley attacks and he can't use his powers either. A demon named Cronyn comes to the door and Phoebe and Paige agree to try to resolve this problem with him, when he says that it's affecting all of good and evil. They agree to a meeting to get magic back but no one can bring weapons. Of course, he is evil and it's a trap. Even though they agreed to a neutral place it is filled with demons but who are powerless so they brought baseball bats and knives to fight. Phoebe and Paige expected this and brought many disguised weapons. As this is going on Piper goes into labor and Victor gets stabbed by Doris, who is really a demon. Phoebe and Paige figure out that they have to use the unicorn's horn to save magic and vanquish the demons.

[edit] Trivia
- The episode title is a reference to the Don McLean song American Pie, from the line in the song that states "The Day the Music Died".
- The WB used the alternate title Special Delivery in promotional commercials.
- Piper gives birth to her first child, Wyatt, 6 weeks early. He isn't named until the end of the episode Baby's First Demon.
- At one point Piper comments on Wyatt's hair being brown, to which Paige said "What did you expect, a blonde?". In later episodes Wyatt does indeed become blonde like his father.
- When Phoebe is preparing Piper's room for her sisters arrival Paige orbs in and we notice that she is wearing a shirt with one side sleeveless and the other side with a short sleeve. But only a few seconds later Phoebe and Paige walk down the stairs to greet Piper, but Paiges shirt was turned around and now the side with the sleeve is on the other shoulder.
- While Piper is on bedrest she is seen watching Passions, a soap opera which often centers around themes of witchcraft and the supernatural. She makes a quip about how a spell performed by Tabitha Lenox wouldn't work in 'real life'.
