[edit] Episode recap
The mailman delivers mail to Jon’s house, and he is pleased that he did it without falling victim to one of Garfield’s booby traps when he gets snagged by a rope trap, leaving him hanging upside down from a tree. Jon then comes out, and the mailman tells him that he has a letter for him from a lawyer. The letter informs Jon that his cousin Norbert has died and that Jon is mentioned in his will.
Jon, Garfield and Norbert’s business partner (Elmwood Krass) meet with the lawyer for the reading of the will. The will states that Krass receives nothing, Jon merely receives a “hello”, and Garfield receives the Klopman diamond. The lawyer then notes that the diamond has a curse; regardless, Garfield and Jon take it home, and Krass is determined to get it.
Krass follows Jon and Garfield home, and he demands that Garfield sell the diamond to him; Garfield refuses. He then throws a ball for Odie to fetch, but the ball ricochets off a picture on the wall, which lands on the top of the recliner, whose bottom jolts out and hits the footstool, which in turn hits Garfield with so much force that he crashes into a bookcase and hits the wall; after which most of the books land on his head. A cement mixer then pours cement through the window, which lands on Garfield.
Krass comes to the door again wanting to purchase the diamond, to which Garfield refuses again. After he slams the door, the door lands on him; then the ceiling also collapses on him. He then decides to sell the diamond after all and accepts a check from Krass. After Krass leaves, he is caught in the middle of a pileup involving several cars and airplanes, followed by being hit by a grand piano and a steamroller; a lighting bolt then chases him down the street. Jon then takes Krass’ check to pay for all the house damage, and Garfield laments about not having his inheritance, as well as the mail being late (the mailman is still hanging from the tree).
[edit] Trivia
- Garfield scoffs, “‘Bad luck.’ That could’ve happened to anybody.” before anything bad actually happens to him.
[edit] Quotes
Garfield: You’re bored, Odie. Wanna do something?
Odie: Mm-hmm.
Garfield: Okay, I’ll give you a choice. Either we can discuss the socioeconomic status of the world—[Cheerfully]—or, I’ll throw a ball, and you fetch it! [Odie runs off and scampers back with a ball] Always a sucker for the intellectual stuff.
