The Cupid Effect is the 69th episode of the TV series Kim Possible. It marks the Wade's first face to face meeting with Monique, and is one of the few episodes in which he is seen outside of his room.

[edit] Plot Synopsis

It is Kim and Ron's first Valentine's Day as a couple, yet they have nothing planned. Kim believes Ron may have forgotten. Monique tells her that no one can forget Valentine's Day. Ron shows up, absent from work because of cages left open in the Smarty Mart pet department because of "food chain issues". Ron asks about the hearts hanging from the roof. Monique decides to leave the two alone "to get more stock".

Kim asks Ron if he knows of any holidays in February, but he only seems to know two. Ron takes out from his pocket and offers Kim a toothbrush ("Dental Health Month"). Kim lets him know it's Valentine Day, despite him knowing, he doesn't celebrate it because he's never had a girlfriend. Remembering, he yells with excitement. Wade meets Kim and Ron at Club Banana to give Kim a new battery for her Kimmunicator, with added x-ray mode. While there, he sees Monique and falls in love on sight. Because it is Ron's first Valentine's Day with a girlfriend, Ron thinks that his "mad love school skills" make him especially suited to give Wade advice on how to win Monique's heart.

After a failed attempt to dress Wade up like a dead president (Lincoln), Ron unwittingly gives Wade an idea to make Monique fall for him. That night Wade invents a love ray but is interrupted by Ron who gets the idea to take all of them to Paris. He gets Kim and Monique go to Paris on the pretext of saving the Eiffel Tower, from rust, and Wade says he's there to fix the French Internet. Once there, Wade meets Monique and zaps her with an invention of his which causes her to fall in love with him for a short period of time (and thus requires renewal). While they are on a romantic date, the Señor Seniors spy them and hatch one of their cunning schemes to steal the device.

The Seniors plan to amplify the device at a concert, so that all the women will fall in love with Junior, and give them control of "half the world." Kim, Ron, Wade, and Monique wear special ear plugs to keep them immune to the effects of the ray.

However the plan goes awry when Monique and Kim lose their earplugs and are thus affected by the ray. However Wade disables Seniors guards and destroys the ray. Back home, Ron and Kim have their romantic dinner, they´re about to kiss again when they notice Monique recriminates with Wade. After she calms down she says they can be friends. Wade is OK with that and immediately sits down at a table with a girl closer to his age. Monique is happy for it until she realizes she's dateless on V-Day as she calls it. She sees Nacho Ned silently flirting with her and decides that being dateless works.

In the end credits, Wade tells Ron that his new girlfriend Olivia, who happens to be a super genius herself, built a love ray of her own. Then she zaps him with it. Ron wonders if Kim has one and has a bad reaction when Kim comes up from behind him. She says he's weird and then tells him she likes weird as it fades out.

[edit] Trivia

  • The plot continues the running theme of Jr's desire to be an international pop sensation.
  • Aired out of sequence to coincide with Valentine's Day.
  • The dialog between Kim and Ron with Kim stating to Ron "you're weird" is a reference to their first meeting in pre-school where she makes the same statement.
  • The fourth Holiday episode produced, and the first Valentine's episode for the franchise.
  • Wade's second personal appearance. The first being in Team Impossible. Chronologically, though, Wade's second personal appearance is in Mad Dogs and Aliens, which makes this his third. (The adult Wade in A Sitch in Time is not included).
  • Señor Senior, Sr. tells Mrs. Load "Together, we will chase it around perdition's flame", an allusion to a line by Ricardo Montalban's Khan character in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (itself an allusion to Moby Dick).
  • Senior's "Valentine's Day Card" that he reads from is actually a Middleton parking citation.
  • Nacho Ned appears in this episode, albeit silently flirting with Monique --- to her consternation.
  • Wade's father's name, "Lontaine", is revealed.

[edit] Quotes

  • Ron: "Did you know it's the city of lights, not lice?"
  • Wade: "Apparently posing as a President is against mall regulations."
  • Ron: "Happy national dental hygiene month!"
  • Ron: "Err... OK, OK. Wade invented a bun warmer that makes girls fall in love with him!"
Kim: "I KNEW there was something wrong with that bun warmer!"
  • Kim: "You invented a love ray?
    Wade: "It was Ron's idea!"
Ron: "I have lots of ideas, not everyone acts on them!"
  • Señor Senior, Sr.: "Son, that is cheating! I am so proud."
  • Kim: "Yeah, it's partly cloudy and completely weird."
  • Kim: "Junior, will you be my valentine?"
Señor Senior, Jr: "I'm expecting a lot of offers this year. I'll think about it."
  • Kim: "You're weird!"
    Ron: "Kim!"
Kim: "Shh, (romantically) I like weird!"
  • Wade: "Shouldn't I just be myself?"
Ron:"Yeah, that only works in cartoons."
  • Señor Senior, Sr.: (to Wade) "Your genius cannot beat my evil or my treachery! Have you met my bodyguards, Evil and Treachery?"
  • Monique: "I cannot believe you used science for evil."
Wade: "Technically, it was for love."
Monique: "I don't care what it was for!"
  • Ron: "What? That... that's crazy! Oh, look my favourite show! Weather..."
Kim: "Yeah, it's party cloudy, and completely weird!"
