The Crystal Cave is a 1970 fantasy novel by Mary Stewart. It is the first in a quartet of novels covering the Arthurian legend. It is followed by The Hollow Hills, The Last Enchantment, and The Wicked Day.

The protagonist of this story is a boy named Myrddin Emrys, also known as Merlin, which is the Welsh form of the word "falcon". Emrys is also known as Ambrosious, or Prince of light.

This novel covers the time from when Merlin was a young boy until he becomes a young man. Merlin doesn't know who his father is, so he is referred to as the son of a devil by the townspeople. This novel allows the reader to see beyond the legend of Merlin into the life of an extremely intelligent, gifted man.

The novel was adapted into a television series by the BBC in the 1990s, retitled Merlin Of the Crystal Cave and starred Robert Powell.
