[edit] The Crass Unicorn

Billy tells how his day at school went. He said it went "pretty rad", even though the kids did terrible things to him, including taking his lunch money (even Harold wanted Billy's money), calling him a loser, and suggesting that he sell himself to science. He also said Ms. Butterbean had him repeat the second grade (again). Billy thinks that Grim and Mandy are not being positive, so he wants to go to a magical place. Grim transports them to the Enchanted Forest. Billy likes the forest, until he bumps in and meets a rude unicorn named Mary Frances. He wants to change her attitude, however Mandy warns him that he cannot force change on someone. Billy tries this anyway, and when he uses psychology, Mary suddenly receives a vision about why she is so mean- It started when darkness came to the forest. All the unicorns tried to flee by swimming into the ocean. Mary could not go because she couldn't swim. After hearing the story, Billy gives her swimming lessons. Mary believes she is ready to swim with the other unicorns and walks to the place where the unicorns fled. When they get to the lake, everyone teases Mary Frances, which is similar to the way the students at school tease Billy. Mary than explains that that is why she doesn't hang out with the others. She then yells, "Why don't you just go back where you came from and leave me alone?!" and kicks Billy in the head. When Billy wakes up he doesn't remember anything, so Mandy gets an idea. Mandy and Grim replace Billy with Mary, and they return to Endsville and continue watching TV and they are seen eating popcorn. Meanwhile, Billy stays in the Enchanted Forest, ignorant of other Unicorns' rudeness.

[edit] Billy and Mandy Begins

Grim, Billy, Mandy, and Irwin are stuck in a pit with a dangerous monster about to eat them so Irwin wants to know how they met:

  • Billy: In a galaxy named Steve, Billy and Mandy are seeking for ultimate power, which they could obtain from the Grim Reaper. They go to the Rome, under the Colluseum to find the Grim Reaper's bones, next they visit the Tomb of Ra to find his cloak, and last they go to the Amazon and get Grim's head. Then they put Grim together in a potion and he comes alive again, vowing to become their servant for eternity and give them the ultimate power (that actually comes from dancing), and then they dance (along with some woodland creatures and the potion).
  • Grim: Grim is the most powerful creature in the underworld and he gets a call and has to set off to Mr. Hobnobbin's palace. He then gets captured by Billy and Mandy. He then escapes and they fight. Mandy chops off Grim's hand and Billy blasts him in a ray, which then leaves him vulnerable to be caught and put in a tiny box. This is an obvious parody to Ghostbusters.
  • Mandy: Mandy shows what actually happened, using flashbacks from Meet the Reaper. But Grim disagrees saying that didn't look like them (this is because the style of the show changed slowly and gradually over time.).

Then Irwin asks how they got trapped. Billy is about to tell the story, but they fall and get eaten by the sea serpent.

[edit] End Credits

After Billy pours cereal, it begins to talk in a villainous voice (which sounds exactly like Ghostfreak in Ben 10) , telling Billy to destroy objects. He thinks he's only imagining this, so he pours milk and the cereal begins to drown. Billy then eats it.

[edit] Culturual references

  • Billy and Mandy Begins is a pun on Batman Begins.
  • During the ending of Billy's story in Billy and Mandy Begins, the Shmoo can be seen dancing in a cauldron.
  • One of Grim's fans resembles a World of Warcraft character, specifically an undead female. Another fan resembles an Otyugh, a monster from DnD. The other monster from DnD that is present was Stitch.
  • In the scene where Billy makes Mary Frances dress up in a variety of outfits in an attempt to cheer her up, the outfits that Billy & Grim are dressed in at the end of the montage are that of Magenta and Columbia from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
  • In the end credits, there's a cereal box. It has a bird that appears like Toucan Sam from the cereal brand, Froot Loops.
  • In Billy's side of the story in Billy and Mandy Begins, when Billy and Mandy create Grim, it has a near perfect resemblance to the graveyard scene of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, in which Lord Voldemort is reborn.
  • When Grim says to Mandy "Surely you jest!" Mandy relplies, "Don't call me Shirley!", which is a reference to Airplane!
  • In Grim's version of their meeting, Billy quotes The Silence of the Lambs " It puts the lotion on its skin or else it gets the hose again!"
  • Grim's story is similar to the end of Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back. Even to the point of Grim saying I'll never join you! to make the viewer expect him to say, you killed my father! In addition, when Grim's arm is cut off and his scythe and arm fall down the pit while he is hanging above it is a direct reference to the same scene in The Empire Strikes Back, which is exactly what happened in the close of Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader's fight, Vader chops off Luke's arm, which fall off a ledge as well as his weapon and into a pit. Also the ray Billy shoots Grim with is like the equipment the Ghostbusters use.
  • The Crass Unicorn is a a parody of the fantasy novel The Last Unicorn. This is made obvious when Mary Francis states that all of her unicorn friends were driven into the sea, which was the main conflict in The Last Unicorn.

[edit] Goofs

  • In Meet the Reaper, Mandy says that it was Mr. Snuggle's tenth birthday, but in Billy and Mandy Begins, she claims that he is seven years old.
  • On August 7, 2006, there was a preview for this episode and it said "tonight" instead of "this Wednesday"
  • When Billy runs over to Mandy in "Billy and Mandy Begins", Mandy's voice is heard but if you look closely, her mouth isn't moving at all.

In billy's story, the little white blob on the pot is from the "Flinstones", a classic show based on a stone-aged family.

[edit] Trivia

  • According to the Merriam Webster dictionaries, the word "crass" is used to describe gross and insensitive.
  • On Billy and Mandy Begins, after Mandy tells of how they met according to the pilot, Grim breaks the fourth wall by saying "Please Mandy, that didn't even look like us!" because of the fact the pilot has a different kind of animation.
  • This the first time that Mandy is seen dancing, but that was in Billy's story.
  • Billy has repeated the 2nd grade and his teacher said that he needs to repeat it again. This could mean that Mandy is in the 2nd grade as she is in Billy's class, but this is probably a coincidence[citation needed].
  • Mandy smiles in Billy's story, but her mouth was Grey DeLisle's lips and are used in this episode to project Mandy's mouth.
  • In Billy and Mandy Begins, Irwin mentions Melvin, his brother from Halls of Time.
  • In The Crass Unicorn, when Mary Francis was telling about the day that darkness went over her land, she breaks the fourth wall by mentioning that it was the day that the pilot aired.
