The Communicator (IPFW)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Communicator, a 5000 weekly circulation, is the student newspaper of IPFW (Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne). IPFW has over 11,000 full and part-time students and has grown considerably over the past 10 years. The campus has recently added student dormitories (Aug. 2004) and many more parking lots/garages. A new music building (Fall 2006) is on the way. A new hotel will be built for the student management major. The athletic programs transitioned to Division I beginning in 2001 and the men's basketball team has a new facility - the 11,000 seat Memorial Coliseum.
The Communicator itself has changed by leaps and bounds in the past several years. In Spring 2005, editor Andrew Welfle instituted a major redesign involving the use of the font Frutiger for major headlines and borderless, clean designs, favoring a thin rule line instead of boxes.
In Spring of 2006, the newspaper was one of very few newspapers in the nation to feature cartoons of the Muslim prophet Muhammad, which created controversy.
