The Comas were formed in Chapel Hill, NC by Andy Herod in March 1998. Eight years and three (almost four, apparently) albums later, they have evolved into a dynamic rock band, disposing of any ideas that they are joking. After releasing two solid albums, Wave to Make Friends in 1999 and A Def Needle in Tomorrow in 2000, The Comas struck gold after Herod's much-publicized break up with actress, Michelle Williams. He wrote Conductor, a break up album to top all break up albums. Rolling Stone called Conductor one of the "best records you didn't hear" of 2004 and Spin Magazine featured them as a "band to watch." Break ups are tough, but this may have been the best thing that ever happened to Herod. Since the release of Conductor, Herod moved the band to New York City, where they currently reside, and switched from Yep Roc Records to Vagrant Records. In addition to these changes, the band has shifted members. The lineup now includes longtime Coma Nicole Gehweiler (guitars/vox), Matt Sumrow (keys/vox), Jason Caperton (bass), and Nic Gonzales (drums). The Comas' fourth album, "Spells" is set to be released in March/April 2007.
