There Is Nothing Left to Lose (1999) |
The Colour and the Shape is the Foo Fighters' second album. It was released May 20, 1997 through Roswell/Capitol Records.
This album was the debut of the Foo Fighters as a band, as Dave Grohl had recorded all of the first Foo Fighters album by himself with the exception of one guitar part by Greg Dulli. After a grueling recording session at Bear Creek Studios in Woodinville, Washington, Grohl took guitarist Pat Smear and bassist Nate Mendel to Grandmaster Studios in Los Angeles, California, and rerecorded the album with Grohl himself on drums. Following this session, drummer William Goldsmith officially quit the band. He left because he felt that Dave didn't think he was good enough and the producer to this day has a regret to how William left the band. The album reached No. 3 in the UK and No. 10 in the United States. As of June 2005, The Colour And The Shape remained Foo Fighters' biggest U.S. seller, with well over 2 million units sold.
