[edit] History

The Code 13 is an internet forum for supporters of all Rugby League clubs to gather and discuss the sport. It exists on one of the Servers set up and run by ProBoards Internet Forum.

It was set up by Ian Brown in June 2006 when the BBC made a decision to more heavily moderate the Five Live on-line Discussion Boards, and was initially frequented by just a handful of members. In July 2006, BBC on-line added what became known as the "three-minute rule". This was a rule preventing a user from posting on the message board more than once every three minutes. A number of frequent Five Live posters considered this to be an excessive regulation and the One Rugby League membership grew considerably over the following few weeks.

As a part of the Five Live "House Rules" links within posts to the One Rugby League board (amongst others) were removed by the Five Live moderators within a few minutes of being added. This caused some tension between moderators and posters, some of whom were put into a "pre-moderation" status, meaning that all posts that they tried to add to the board were moderated before being added to the board. This increased the membership of the One Rugby League board yet further.

On October 20th 2006, the BBC announced that the Five Live message boards would be gone by the end of November, and merged into a single message board area. OneRL received a new lease of life as BBC posters looked for a new place to congregate. During the last few weeks of the old-style message board, posts appeared less heavily moderated (only moderating for swearing, insulting or threatening remarks, racism etc.) and the link to the OneRL board remained on-line for some time.

Since the closure of the old Five Live message boards, OneRL has taken on a life of it's own, moving from a simple general chat board to now include a comprehensive rugby league section where articles from all over the world can be found, as well as results from the Professional to Amateur games. There are a large amount of Super League supporters who post regularly, but the board has also been frequented by supporters of clubs from the Australian NRL and the National Leagues.

The Forum support is quite well spread but St Helens probably have the strongest fan base on there. Followed by Wigan, Bradford, Warrington, Leeds and the other usual suspects. There are a few supporters of smaller teams on the board too, Swinton and Halifax both have followings.

The rest of the support is divided quite evenly. Salford City Reds have a few regular posters (Clifton City Red, SS, willowsshed and Pegged-Back spring to mind) as do the Wakefield Wildcats, Huddersfield Giants and the Castleford Tigers. There is also Stooper (a Harlequins fan, yes you read that right!).

The outright Forum Superstar is Ian Brown (not the former Stone Roses singer). He is the founder of the board. He is a Bradford Bulls die-hard and has an extensive knowledge of the bulls .Few people will forget his prescence, if only for entertainment values.

[edit] Expansion

The board now consists of 6 main sections; Rugby Chat, General Chat, Fantasy League, League Tables, Forum Changes and Forum Information. (A 7th section is also reported to exist, and is reportedly for the use of the Moderation and Administration team, who alone have access to this section.)

The Rugby Chat is very busy over the weekends when games are being played, and match reports are promptly posted, provoking discussion from supporters of all clubs. There are frequently discussions about the upcoming Franchise debate which could be implemented in 2009. There is also a prediction competition running for the season, to see who the hottest tipster is.

General Chat is a place for the posters to congregate when there is no rugby being played. There is usually political discussion and current affairs, with other topics stretching to personal experiences and advice on general issues.

League Tables are updated weekly, and will include the National Leagues once the season kicks off in April.

Forum Changes is, as the name suggests, a place that users can have a say on what happens with the board. Anything posted here is discussed by the moderators and administrator to see if it can be implemented.

Forum Information contains the rules of the board, that all users must abide by.

[edit] Fantasy League

The Fantasy League is a popular new addition to OneRL for Super League XII after being suggested by Yetti, although the Fantasy League is now run by Stooper. Users are asked to choose a squad of 13 Super League players, 1 from each club and two from the side that they support - anybody who does not support a Super League team can pick one of their choosing. Players score one point for playing, 5 points per try (with an extra 10 points if they score 3 tries), 2 points per goal and 1 point per drop goal. They will be deducted 5 points if they are sin binned, and 10 points if they are sent off.

[edit] Moderators

There are currently 4 Moderators - Notsure, Wigan1980, Belchenko, Caswidlcat, and - and 1 Administrator - Ian Brown - on the board to help maintain it. This administration team support a reasonably eclectic range of Super League clubs. Membership of the Moderators group has occasionally been a source of some controversy on the board and the moderators have changed a number of times since the board began. Many complaints ranged around the fact that a number of Moderators all supported the same team, and there were accusations of bias levelled against some Moderators (often unfairly). However, since the last moderator updates in January 2007, there has been far less consternation on the board, regarding this matter, although the issue of Moderators in general is still of some concern to some posters, who fear that the board may turn against them in a similar way to the heavy moderation of the old Five Live boards.
