The Chariot is a Christian Metalcore band started in 2003 by the ex-vocalist of Norma Jean, Josh Scogin. Scogin left Norma Jean at the peak of their success, to the dismay of fans. Scogin only said "I wish I had some great story about a big fight or aliens or something, but really it was just something that I felt led to do." The Chariot signed with Solid State Records in May of 2004. The band has finished recording their new album entitled The Fiancee, produced by Steve Evetts, and is scheduled to be released on April 3rd, 2007. The band has just finished playing on Solid State's Youngbloods II tour with August Burns Red, Inhale Exhale, Twelve Gauge Valentine, and Destroy the Runner and will be going on a European tour in early 2007 with Becoming the Archetype.

The band's legendary live shows are well known throughout the Christian metal scene, as well as being thought to be one of the most chaotic Christian metal bands to date.

[edit] History

The music festival Furnace Fest was a defining time in the history of Norma Jean. The band was touring their album Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child. It was an album that had garnered the band strong reviews from many in the heavy metal community. Despite the success the band was achieving frontman Josh Scogin announced at the end of the set he would be leaving Norma Jean.

“I wish I had some great story about a big fight or aliens or something,” Scogin later explained. "But really it was just something that I felt led to do.” [1]

However, Scogin soon returned with The Chariot. “Creating something out of nothing ... It is the basic concept of art,” he said.

Produced by geniuses in Atlanta, Georgia, Everything Is Alive, Everything Is Breathing, Nothing Is Dead, and Nothing Is Bleeding is The Chariot's debut album. “I don’t strive for long titles,” Scogin explains. “I do make sure that every single title has purpose and meaning though. The album title is pretty much just trying to break away from the ‘dead, dying, bleeding, bloody, stabbing, killing, shooting, hand grenading’ you get the idea. It is just trying to say that life is actually okay.”

[edit] June 14, 2006 Announcement

On June 14, 2006, the following message was posted on The Chariot's Myspace Page:

"New Members"

In the early stages of every band, members often change due to whatever reason. And in this case it is no different. Having only done one full length record The Chariot is a very young band, and some changes have come. The only difference is for The Chariot many people have grown to know the members very well, which only makes changes like this more difficult to understand. But we rest in knowing you will. Recently, Keller and Beiser have quit the band for reasons of their own. Although it is something they felt they had to do, we would like for everyone to welcome newcomers Dan Eaton and Jon Terrey. They have been best friends of The Chariot for much longer than the band has existed so everyone is eye to eye on the love of music and the band is very much excited about the change. Obviously, the music will remain the same and every show is still booked and ready to go. They have currently started writing for their new record scheduled to come out early next year. "The songs we have written are by far some of my favorite songs yet," Scogin explains, "Obviously we love Keller and Beiser and we wish the best for them, but we respect their decision and we look forward to see what is to come." We do hope to see you soon. God bless everyone.

"We are very pleased to welcome newcomers Dan Eaton and Jon Terrey to the line up! The Chariot has recently parted ways with members Keller Harbin and Joshua Beiser. It was a mutual decision on all parties involved, and we are very grateful for the times we have had. We hope the best for them. In other news, we are currently writing for our 2nd full-length CD scheduled to come out early next year. With an extremely busy year coming up, be sure to check the shows page to know when we will be in your neck of the woods. God bless you all.
