The Carnation are a Swedish rock band from Gothenburg.

The Carnation was formed in 1998 as The Anxious by Christian Bergman (guitar/vocals) and Eric Obo (vocals/guitar). They signed a record contract with the German label Sounds of Subterrania in 2003. They made their debut with the singel New Sensation and an album entitled Gothenburg Rifle Association the following year. After achieving cult status in Germany and Japan, The Carnation recorded their follow-up Human Universals during the winter of 2006.

In the beginning, The Carnation was heavily influenced by the British indie scene (Ride, Blur, The Verve etc.), as well as 1960s mod bands and 1970s mod revival bands, especially The Jam. After the fast and aggressive punk rock and New Wave music of their debut, the band has tried to create a sound based upon the use of slide guitar, synthesisers, dance grooves and politically-orientated lyrics.
