"The Captain and the Kid" is the title track of Elton John's album The Captain & The Kid, it ends the album. The introduction to the song is almost identical to the opening title track of John's Captain Fantastic & the Brown Dirt Cowboy. The lyrics allude to John's and Bernie Taupin's personas that they have made since they gained success. For instance: "To turn you into the Brown Dirt Cowboy/and me into a rocket man", these lyrics very directly compare the songs to their personalities.
