The Canterbury Tales a dramatic series that aired on BBC One. Each episode is an adaptation of one of Geoffrey Chaucer's 14th century Canterbury Tales to a modern setting. The series first aired on September 2003 and ended after six episodes on October 16, 2003.
From Chaucer's original collection, the producers chose six tales:
- The Wife of Bath — with Julie Walters and Paul Nicholls
- The Miller's Tale — set in suburban Kent with Dennis Waterman, Billie Piper and James Nesbitt
- The Knight's Tale — with Chiwetel Ejiofor, Keeley Hawes and John Simm
- The Sea Captain's Tale — set in Gravesend with Om Puri, Nitin Ganatra and Indira Varma
- The Pardoner's Tale — set in Rochester with Jonny Lee Miller
- The Man of Law's Tale — set in Chatham with Andrew Lincoln and Nikki Amuka-Bird
The original tales are told by a group of pilgrims travelling from London to Canterbury. Many of the modern versions are set on the same route.
