The Burton Awards for Legal Achievement

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Burton Awards program is a not-for-profit educational effort run in association with the Library of Congress. The program rewards great achievements in law, but is principally devoted to legal writing and research. The event in 2007 will be held on June 4, 2007 at the Library of Congress. Attendees also include judges, deans of law schools, law school professionals, and even government officials. Each year since 1999, 30 writing awards have been presented to partners in America's 1,000 largest law firms. Ten additional awards are given to Association of Legal Administrators members for special projects and 15 writing awards will be presented to law school students. The 2007 "REFORM IN LAW" WILL BE AWARDED FOR REWRITING FEDERAL RULES

The Burton Awards announced that at the 2007 "Reform in Law" award will be presented to two judicial committees, District Court Lee Rosenthal, and consultant Joe Kimble. The awards will be given at the event which will be held on June 4, 2006 at the Library of Congress. The function is held in association with the Library of Congress. The awards will be given for a massive effort in the Federal Court system to revise the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure. The focus of the project was clarity, consistency and a more understandable, plainer style. The rewriting of the Civil Procedures Law and Rules took almost four years and resulted in a major overhaul. The changes are now before the Supreme Court for its final approval. Congressional approval follows which is considered a certainty. The Rules are expected to be implemented in late 2007. The principal author of the revision and the chairs of the governing court committees will be participating in the awards ceremony.
