The Boy Next Door is a novel by Meg Cabot, writing this time as Meggin Cabot.

The heroine, Mel Fuller who is a young beautiful journalist, falls in love with her comatose neighbor's nephew, Max Friedlander after he moves in to take care of his aunts pets after she is strangely attacked in her home. What she doesn't know is that he's not who he says it is. He's actually Max's friend, John Trent, pretending to be Max to do a favor for the real Max. Only now, John's falling for Mel as well.

This is one of Meg Cabot's books for adults. A romantic comedy told on its entirety by emails sent among the characters.
