The Blizzards are an Irish ska-pop band from Mullingar, County Westmeath, Ireland formed in 2003. The band is made up of Niall Breslin (Lead vocals & guitar), Justin Ryan (Lead guitar), Dec Murphy (Drums), Anthony Doran (Bass) and Aidan Lynch (Keyboards and acoustic guitar).
The Blizzards signed a recording contract in 2006 with Universal Music Ireland after their debut single First Girl To Leave Town went to No. 11 in the Irish charts; making it the biggest selling independent release in Ireland in 2005. In July 2005 the band played the New Bands Stage at Oxegen in front of an audience of 2,500.
In 2006, the band's second single Trouble was released and went to No. 6 in the Irish charts. The single stayed in the Top 40 for seven weeks. In July the band returned to Oxegen, this time on the NME Stage witnessed by an audience of 10,000.
The band's next single Miss Fantasia Preaches was released in August 2006, followed by another single War of Words on Friday October 13 2006. Later that month and produced by legendary US producer Michael Beinhorn (Red Hot Chili Peppers, Korn, Soundgarden) the band's debut album A Public Display of Affection was released by Universal on October 27th. They are currently touring Ireland to promote their album. It is expected that they will once again perform at Oxegen in 2007.
The song 'Superdrug' is about a prank by Breslin's bandmates in which his drink was spiked with five Viagra tablets. Having tried to use the internet search engine Ask Jeeves to find a cure for the resulting prolonged erection, the effects were eventually neutralised by watching Antiques Roadshow.
