The Blinding EP is an EP by English indie rock band Babyshambles. It is the band's first release since signing with major record label Parlophone. The EP was released on 4 December 2006 in the United Kingdom to overwhelmingly positive critical reviews by that label's off-shoot Regal Records (see 2006 in British music) and on December 5 in the United States by Capitol Records.[1]

It was leaked online on Friday 27 October 2006; however, the title track wasn't leaked along with the other four until later, and the leaked version of LYBYG clearly represents an earlier mix, with the duration of 3:54 as opposed to the EP's 4:37. On its week of release it peaked at number 2 on itunes top albums.

The EP entered the official UK Albums Chart at #62 on December 11, 2006, while the title song entered the download chart at #77. A week later, an entry on band's official MySpace blog stated that had a fifth track not been added to make the EP ineligible in the UK Singles Chart, "The Blinding" would have entered that chart at #4.

[edit] Trivia

  • Pete Doherty designed the artwork for the EP.[1]
  • "Love You But You're Green" is based on Graham Greene's novel Brighton Rock where Pinkie shouts "But You're Green, But You're Green." The acoustic version of this song from "Acousticalullaby (Skag & Bone Mix)" Babyshambles song collection, titled "I Love You (But You're Green)." there, remains a favourite with some fans, who objected to slowing down of the tempo on the EP version, something that was actually pointed out as intentional by Doherty in NME interview from 29 July 2006, in which he also had this to say about "Sedative": "It's a dangerous tune. It's a bad tune, a bad, bad tune. Makes Oasis look like the Smurfs." He also called "The Blinding" "sinister," and remarked that "I Wish" was "one of the strongest songs I've ever co-written."
  • NME reported in October 2006 that the band had recorded eleven songs including those on the EP, and the following tracks not featured on the EP: "I Can See From Afar", "Anguish", "Stung Me Like Life".[1] Fans have speculated that "Anguish" and "Stung Me Like Life" were simply names of songs "I Wish" and "Stone Me, What A Life," which were misheard by the journalist.
  • "French Dog Blues" was reportedly also recorded, but remains unreleased, though Doherty named his new website after the song.
  • Two videos were released, "The Blinding" (directed by Julien Temple), and "Love You But You're Green". The band performed the latter song on BBC2's "The Culture Show" programme.
