[edit] History

The Black Velvets formed in 2002 by drummer Nick Kilroe and bass player Dave Dutton, who joined together after their previous bands split up. Nick was in the Oasis-wannabes The Northern Souls, and Dave was in The Skylarks. The Skylarks released an 8-song album in Japan in 2002, titled "Death Of The 20th Century Man". Paul Molloy of The Skylarks would later join The Stands

Nick and Dave hooked up with vocalist Paul Carden and guitarist Robbie Ross, and began crafting a riff-driven, deep beat classic glam rock sound, and organised showcase gigs at the Cavern Club. After some bigger gigs in London, supporting among others The Who, the band signed to Vertigo Records in 2004. Liam Gallagher from Oasis was present at the signing, but he was to afraid to sign as a witness, so they asked a passer with balls and ore instead.

The band's debut single, "Get On Your Life", was released in November 2004. The following year saw the release of two more singles, "3345" and "Once in a While", and the band's self-titled debut album. Extensive touring followed National and Worldwide. The band also played dates supporting Mötley Crüe and appeared at the Oxegen, Glastonbury and Tennants Vital festivals.

The Black Velvet's song Fear and Loathing appeared in the soundtrack to the 2005 combat-driven racing game Burnout Revenge.
