The Black Balloon is a heart-warming drama-based Australian film currently in production. The film will star Toni Collette, Rhys Wakefield, Luke Ford, Erik Thomson, Gemma Ward as well as a cast of newcomers. It will be directed by first time feature film director, Elissa Down.[1]

The film is scheduled to be released in Australian cinemas as of September, 2007[citation needed].

Toni Collette announced at a recent Tour date with her band that its a movie to look out for and that it was filmed in some locations in Holsworthy.

The film follows Thomas (Wakefield), who has to care for his autistic older brother Charlie (Ford) with the help of girlfriend Jackie (Ward), when his pregnant mother (Collette) has to rest.

Struggling to cope with the dilemmas that he faces (mainly taking care of his autistic brother), Thomas undergoes an emotional roller-coaster, as his true feelings about reality surface.
