[edit] Plot Summary

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

A yacht cruise in Gotham Bay is suddenly interrupted as a giant iceberg appears ahead, during the hottest day of the summer. As the captain of the yacht panics about what to do, an icy villain boards the boat, demanding all the passengers to empty their jewelry into his bag. He flash-freezes one of the passengers, and threatens to make him crumble with his sonic ice pick. After robbing the passengers, he freezes a path through the water with his hand, and makes his escape.

Later, as the frozen passenger is broken free of the ice, police are baffled by the explanation, and have no leads on this new chilly villain. Batman, however, uses a ultraviolet flashlight to find the villain’s icy footprints.

Mr. Freeze, as he calls himself, then attempts to rob a diamond shop, in hopes of collecting more “ice”. However, both Batman and the police intervene, and a short fight ensues. During the fight, Batman learns that Mr. Freeze in none other than Victor Fries, a diamond thief that he once had a run-in with, resulting in Fries falling into a cryogenic tube and being electrocuted and frozen at the same time. The two factors caused Fries’ body temperature to drop below that of the living, giving him the ability to generate ice with his skin. With help from a scientist, he built a suit to control his power, and continued on his criminal life. Batman is then flash-frozen up to his neck, and Freeze gets away, leaving Yin and Bennett with a chance to unmask Batman. However, before they can, Batman uses a sonic device to shatter the ice, and he makes a quick getaway as well.

Bruce ends up nearly dead from hypothermia, and has to be nurtured back to health by Alfred. During this time, he begins wondering if he should give up the role of Batman after being plagued with flash-backs of his parent’s deaths. Meanwhile, Freeze continues his crime-spree, this time making a dome of ice to use as a lair, in the middle of Gotham.

Barely recovered, Bruce dons a new suit, equipped with flame-throwers on each wrist, to take down Freeze. After smashing his Batmobile through the wall of the dome, Batman and Mr. Freeze fight once again, this time resulting in Freeze’s ice helmet being broken before being knocked unconscious.

[edit] Quotes

  • Mr. Freeze: Weather's a bit... muggy.
Man in cruise ship: You are not welcome here, Mr...mr?
    Mr. Freeze: Freeze will do.
Man in cruise ship: Mr. Freeze, you do not have permission--(Mr. Freeze freezes him)
Woman in cruise ship no. 1: What do you want?
    Mr. Freeze: Ice.
Woman in cruise ship no. 2: I don't understand.
Mr. Freeze: Think about it. (shows sonic ice pack) Think fast. (uses sonic ice pack on an ice statue that it was destroyed)
  • Mr. Freeze: The Batman. I thought you never arrive. I've been looking forward to our reunion.
    Batman: Reunion?
  • Mr. Freeze: [explaining about hypothermia] Slowing, aren't we? That would be the hypothermious sending in. We both recognize the symptoms--reaction time slows, reflezes grows sluggish, next comes to hallucinations, lack of consciousness, and finally the big chill.
  • Batman: You keep talking as we met, Mr...Victor Fries? But you're--
Mr. Freeze: If I'm no longer living, Batman, you are the one who iced me. Allow me to return the favor.
  • Victor Fries: No way I'm letting some bat-creep throw me in the cooler.
  • Victor Fries: [seeing his diamonds have slide down] My diamonds!
    Batman: Fries, no!
Victor Fries: [locks into a cryogenic tube] No!
Mr. Freeze: I was electrocuted. The same instant my blood froze in my veins. [after coming out of the tube] My body mutated. Neither living nor dead. Many has considered me a monstrocity. It didn't take much from me to convince an expert in the field to produce a suit to contain my frosty disposition until so I choose to disperse it. Thank you for creating me, Batman. [shows an ice pick] Now, goodbye.
  • Detective Ellen Yin: Freeze!
    Mr. Freeze: As you wish.
  • Mr. Freeze: Maybe, it's cold outside. [a police car arrives]
    Cop: You there! Freeze!
  • Mr. Freeze: It was all too easy. The diamonds, the police, challenges forever with a married criminal. It's clear now that I destined for more than this. After all, you've made me more than human.
Batman: Sorry, Vic, but I'm done taking credit for your handywork. We both know you put yourself on ice. I'm here to bring on the thaw.
Mr. Freeze: Go on then, BRING IT!
  • Mr. Freeze: You're finished, Batman. I'm the king of the mountain! The new emperor of Gotham! So, get used to the weather.
Batman: No, Freeze. This is my mountain.
