Before Hell Freezes Over (2007) |
The Big Bang is the seventh studio album from American rapper Busta Rhymes, released on June 13, 2006. It is his first release under Dr. Dre's Aftermath Entertainment record label. Full production of the album came from Dr. Dre, Swizz Beatz, Will.I.Am, Mr. Porter, Erick Sermon, Green Lantern, Timbaland, the late J Dilla, and DJ Scratch. Featured guests include Nas, Stevie Wonder, the late Rick James, Kelis, Raekwon, and many more. The album became Busta's first album to debut at #1 on the charts with over 209,000 copies sold. On August 4, 2006 the album was certified for shipments of 500,000+, and the album has sold about 540,000 copies to date and 2.2 Million worldwide. So far, five singles have been released: "Touch It", "Touch It Remix", "I Love My Bitch", "New York Shit" and "In The Ghetto". A music video was also released for "New York Shit".
It was speculated that the first single would be "I'll Hurt You", a track featuring Eminem that leaked around December 2004. A second song that leaked was "Where's Your Money?" featuring ODB. However, neither of these tracks would make the final cut of the album. At one point, a collaboration with The Game was planned and possibly even recorded,[1] but this also failed to make the final cut of the album. Due to average responses of the first two leaked tracks, the first single was instead changed to "Touch It" and reached #16 on the Hot 100 chart. "Touch It", which features a sampled portion of Daft Punk's "Technologic", has also garnered a major remix that is currently still receiving major play. The second single "I Love My Chick" features Kelis and will.i.am. Stevie Wonder plays piano and sings on "Been Through the Storm," a track acclaimed by many critics.
The album became Busta Rhymes' highest charting album in the UK, debuting on the UK albums chart at #19. His previous highest album peak was #34 for the album When Disaster Strikes, almost ten years before the release of The Big Bang.
Much to the frustration of fans, none of the "Touch It" remixes, including a somewhat finalized version in which a video was shot for, were not included on the final album cut.
