The Best Nest

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Best Nest was a story by P. D. Eastman. In it, Mr. Bird sings that his nest is the best one of all. His wife, Mrs. Bird, tells him that it is not the best nest. The two search for a new place to build a better nest. After building a nest at a church, the bell sounds and Mrs. Bird flies straight out of the church. Mr. Bird, who was busy singing at the time, tries to find Mrs. Bird, whom he lost. When he sees brown feathers near a cat, he cries, thinking Mrs. Bird was eaten by the cat and he will remain a widower for the rest of his life. Suddenly, he crashes into his old house where his old nest remained, finding Mrs. Bird, still alive, much to his surprise. Mrs. Bird has changed her mind about the old nest being no good, especially because she and her husband had a baby bird, which also thinks that the old nest was the best one after all.
