Vita Novus is a luxurious weight-loss facility dedicated to the rich and corpulent. The management promises a one-hundred-per-cent success rate; "You will leave Vita Novus feeling like an entirely new person." But what is the secret of Vita Novus' success? What are the true aims of its founder, Dame Karna? And will the Doctor ever be able to find the doughnuts he's been craving?

[edit] Notes

  • This story, set during Doctor Who's 17th season, when Douglas Adams was the programme's script editor, contains several references to Adams' work: the Doctor claims that he and Romana are researchers for "a well-known guide for the space traveller on a budget", and saves the day with a towel.
  • The Doctor's list of notable people who have attended Vita Novus includes "evolutionary biologists". Lalla Ward, who plays Romana and reads this story, is married to evolutionary biologist Richard Dawkins.
