The Ballad of Jed Clampett
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"The Ballad of Jed Clampett" was used as the theme song for The Beverly Hillbillies TV show and movie. The song was written by Paul Henning and originally performed by bluegrass musicians Flatt and Scruggs. It was #44 on the music charts in 1962. The song provided the back story for the series.
The often-used phrase "swimming pools...movie stars" comes from this song.
An anti-immigrant and deceptive attack ad uses it as parody for the 2006 Congressional run by Vernon Robinson, raising copyright violation questions.
"Weird Al" Yankovic used some of the lyrics to the "Ballad" in his 1989 single "Money For Nothing/Beverly Hillbillies," which was written for his film UHF.
Banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck often plays the "Ballad" in concert, and an extremely unconventional arrangement of the song was recorded for the 2003 Flecktones album Little Worlds.
