This race used to be called the H E Tancred Stakes, The Tancred Cup or Mercedes Classic

The BMW is a major Group 1 horse race worth 2 million dollars, held over 2400m (a mile and a half). It is held each year in early April at Rosehill Gardens Racecourse in Sydney Australia. It is run on the same day as the Golden Slipper horse race.
