The Archives

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Archives were a short lived and obscure New Zealand beat group who existed between the years 1964 and 1968. The released one album, "Introducing The Archives", which sold poorly. The band's sound could be described as lo-fi Antipodean psychedelia. Whist being primarily influenced by The Beach Boys and The Beatles and other popular music from the time, there was a strong Pacific flavour to their music, which featured ukulele and Hawaiian guitar as well as the more standard guitar, bass and drums.

The band never officially broke up, but effectively stopped making music after the lack of success of their debut album. In recent years they have had some minor influence on current indie pop bands, and are viewed as pioneers of lo-fi.
