The Archers (musical group)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Archers were one of America’s earliest Jesus Music and Contemporary Christian Music groups originally comprised of brothers Tim and Steve Archer, Nancye Short-Tsapralis and Billy Rush Masters. With the departure of Tsapralis and Masters in 1977, sister Janice joined. They began performing in 1965, and enjoyed their period of greatest success from the early–1970s thru the mid-80s. Among their number one hits were “Jesus Is The Answer”, “Little Flowers” and “It Wouldn’t Be Enough”. Their 1977 album Fresh Surrender was nominated for a Dove Award. The Archers were considered unique for their versatility. Their style ranged from mainstream pop, rock and soul to jazz and crossover-country. The toured internationally, and in 1978, performed at The White House for President Jimmy Carter. They received the 1980 Grammy Award for Best Gospel Performance, Contemporary or Inspirational for The Lord's Prayer by Reba Rambo and Dony McGuire. They performed it on the Grammy Award telecast in 1981. The following year, they again appeared on the Grammy Award telecast and were nominated for a Grammy for their album, Spreadin' Like Wildfire. They starred in their own television series, All Systems Are Go in 1985, on Trinity Broadcasting Network TBN. Later that year, they disbanded although they continued to perform periodically through the remainder of the decade. In 1991, they re-grouped for their last album, Colors Of Your Love, and toured in support until they permanently disbanded in 1993.
